Storm Surge: Cyber Threats and the PRC

The cybersecurity community in the U.S. has heard a lot about Volt Typhoon in the last year. In just the last few months, the public has become aware of Flax Typhoon and Salt Typhoon. The newness of these groups is an aberration–a byproduct of new naming conventions and new technical indicators for the same organizations that have been targeting businesses and individuals across the globe for the last twenty years. This talk will detail the organizations behind the new typhoons, identify who and where they target, and why attendees need to be on storm watch.

In this session, attendees will
  • Understand the key cyber threat actors behind Volt, Flax, and Salt Typhoon, their objectives, and the geopolitical drivers influencing their operations.
  • Discover practical strategies for modeling the PRC cyber threat, assessing the risks to your organization, and deploying effective countermeasures.
  • Explore real-world case studies and threat hunts, illustrating how these cyber actors operate.
